May 27-29, the 12 ^th Annual Meeting of China Association for Intercultural Communication cum the Seminar on Cultivating International Talents with Multilingual Competence was held in Dianlian University of Foreign Languages. This year’s meeting welcomed near 300 Chinese and foreign experts and scholars in the fields of intercultural communication, foreign language education, and diplomacy and foreign affairs who were from Chapman University in the United States, the University of Helsinki in Finland, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University, Shih Hsin University in China’s Taiwan, and Dalian University of Foreign Studies etc. 8 teachers from Jiangsu province presented their papers at the meeting, including 4 teachers from Jiangsu University.

Themed at “the cultivation of intercultural communicative competence in the globalized context”, the seminar is aimed at enhancing the intercultural communicative competence of China’s foreign language talents and cultivating the multilingual international talents that will better meet the practical needs of “the Belt and Road Initiative”. 4 faculties from Jiangsu University presented their papers at 3 parallel sessions of the meeting. At the 1 ^st parallel session that focused on “the intercultural communication in the cultural exchanges and cooperation involved in One Belt One Road Initiative”, Jiang Yonghua presented his paper titled “Strengthening the cooperation in history and culture, and boosting ‘the Belt and Road Initiative’ -- Correlation between ‘the Belt and Road Initiative’ and the enrollment of overseas students in China”. At the 2 ^nd parallel session that focused on “developing students’ intercultural competence through overseas study”, Li Jiajun spoke on the title of “Developing students’ intercultural competence through overseas study”. At the 3 ^rd parallel session that focused on “intercultural communication and foreign language education”, Xie Zhifang and Mao Haiyan presented their papers respectively entitled “Relieving the intercultural barriers of overseas undergraduates in China through the education on freshmen -- a case study of overseas students in Jiangsu University” and “On the intercultural communication in the international promotion of the Chinese language and the TCSOL”.

Then faculties of the Language and Culture Center and the Overseas Education College of Jiangsu University here at the meeting went to carry out a survey at the International Institute of Chinese Language and Culture, Dongbei University of Finance and Economics.

At the annual meeting, faculties of Jiangsu University exchanged and learned a lot of experiences from other participants, vigorously promoted our featured TCSOL programs, strove to develop short-term programs for overseas study in China, and actively explored ways to promote the theoretical and practical teaching level of intercultural communication of Jiangsu University.
