On June 27, 2016, 19 students from the first German class held by the Language and Culture Center sat the German Language Proficiency Test at the Goethe-Institut in Nanjing. 18 of them succeeded in obtaining the Geothe Zertifikat A1 and the passing rate was up to 94.74%.
In order to promote the internationalization initiative and further meet the demands of students for studying abroad, the Language and Cultural Center held the first German trainee class soon after it was established Jiangsu University. Only 24 out of a total of 200 undergraduates and graduates were admitted from the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Automotive and Traffic Engineering, the School of Energy and Power Engineering etc that had passed the selection tests and interviews at all levels. 19 trainees attended the test and the rest 5 who had already participated in a short-term exchange program in Germany did not.

The German teacher of the trainee class tried to develop students’ German skills in a systematic and comprehensive manner that covered German alphabet, pronunciation, listening, speaking, reading and writing by enlisting the help of the latest German textbook that had been introduced into China and various teaching tools and approaches. She was highly praised by all students, who had excelled themselves at the exam. Under the meticulous instruction of the German teacher, these students who started from scratch painstakingly completed the learning phase of Start Deutsch 1 in Geothe-Institut within three months.
