2016 “Chinese Bridge--Summer Camp for Austrian Students” (July 17)
Date:2016-07-19 View:
The second day arrived for the Austrian students studying in the Language and Culture Center. Under the instruction of Miss Xu Dan, they began to learn how to introduce themselves and they also learned something about Chinese cuisine.

In the afternoon, they went to visit Zhenjiang Museum and the Xijin Ferry. In Zhenjiang Museum, with the help of a tourist guide, all the students appreciated the bronze wares of the Western Zhou dynasty, the celadon porcelains of the Six Dynasties, the gold and silver treasures of the Tang, the Song, the Yuan, and the Ming dynasty and the painting and calligraphy of the Ming and the Qing dynasty. They also visited the former British Consulate in Zhenjiang.

In the Xijin Ferry, the students were extremely enthralled by the attractive antiquated architecture, touring the buildings of the Life-saving Society, the Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda, the Guanyin Cave and the Waiting Pavilion. They exclaimed at the beauty around and embodied in the scene termed “A Glance of the History of 1,000 years”.

Back in Jiangsu University, they went to the School of Food & Biological Engineering to learn to make a traditional Chinese food -- mooncake. After listening to the instruction of a faculty whose surname was Liu, they began to make the moon cakes themselves. Weighing, filling, molding, brushing oil and egg liquid – all these processes much engaged all the students. The Austrian students were exhilarated by tasting the mooncakes taken out of the ovens that they had made with their own hands.

After dinner, all students went to the gymnasium, where played the badminton and the table tennis. They each had a good time, either by playing the badminton much fiercely or the ping pong a bit gently. Some Austrian students played the ping pong for the first time, but soon they were able to do it just okay. Today was a really busy and fruitful day!
