The fourth day arrived for the Austrian students studying in the Language and Culture Center. In the morning, they continued to learn Chinese under the instruction of Miss Xu Dan and began to prepare for the Chinese “talk show”.

In the afternoon, they had a taste of the traditional Chinese folk art. At first, they learned the traditional Chinese handicrafts--dough modeling. Their task was to mould a giant panda out of dough. Under the instruction of Ms. Cao Xian, they carefully observed and analyzed the characteristics of a panda before crushing, twisting and kneading the dough prepared in advance by hand and touching, slicing and carving it with a small bamboo knife into a panda’s head, ears, body etc, which would be finally glued into a cute panda. After that, they started to learn paper-cutting. They were amazed by the knack that seemed to conjure up the window paper-cuts by folding the paper, sketching a few lines on it and cutting carefully.

The most exciting event of the day was the farewell dinner in the evening. It was hosted by the Austrian students Nick and Philip, who first extended on behalf of all the Austrian campers their sincere gratitude to faculties of the Language and Culture Center for their elaborate organization and arrangement of the activities in Zhenjiang for the Austrian students and sent their presents to those teachers and volunteers who had helped them. Then all the campers performed their Chinese talk shows by talking to each other in groups. It is worth mentioning that just through their study in these few days, even those who have never learned the Chinese language at all have made marked progress and are now able to do some simple Chinese dialogues. Xia Min, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Literal Arts said, “I hope that you will be the friendly envoy between China and Austria.” Mr. Xia granted the certificate to each camper. Other programs performed by the Austrian campers included chorus, dance etc. After the banquet, they were reluctant to leave, chatting with the teachers and volunteers and praying for time to go slower and slower.
