Date:2022-11-10 View:

In order to further expand the academic horizon of international Chinese education students and teachers, the Language and Culture Center invited Dr. Luling Li, Director of the Confucius Classroom of Shaker Heights High School in Ohio, USA, to give an online lecture titled "The Development of Chinese Language Program in American Public Schools and the International Baccalaureate Program" on November 8, 2022.

Taking the Chinese teaching in Ohio as an example, the lecture made an in-depth analysis of the teaching situation of American Chinese program in primary and secondary schools from the perspective of the teaching experience of first-line Chinese teachers, which includes the education system of the United States, foreign language teaching under this system, the macro background, development process and current situation of Chinese education, teacher training, textbook preparation, classroom teaching, summer Chinese programs with overseas students and the daily learning sharing of successful learners. The lecture is broad in vision, rich in content and informative in material, which provides realistic and reliable materials for the teachers and students of International Chinese education in our school to understand the Chinese teaching situation in the United States.

The lecture also introduced the initiatives taken by the Chinese and American governments to promote Chinese language teaching. For example, the U.S. government has established the Chinese Flagship Program, the StarTalk Program, and the 100,000 Strong Initiative to promote Chinese language teaching. The main measures taken by the Chinese government to promote Chinese education in the United States include Confucius Institutes and Confucius classrooms, as well as the "Chinese Bridge", an annual competition to promote American students' Chinese learning, and the "Confucius New Sinology Program" scholarship for studying in China. The lecture not only allowed us to understand the government's efforts in promoting Chinese language teaching from a macro level, but also provided detailed data and information for international Chinese education students and teachers to conduct overseas academic research in the field of international Chinese education.
