INTRODUCTION
As an integral part of China’s intangible cultural heritage, Chinese Chanting is tinged with the unique color of Chinese culture and enjoys a high reputation in the world. Numerous Chinese classics including The Four Books and Five Classics, the Tang poems and Song lyrics are composed in company with the rhythmical chanting of their contents. Only in the process of chanting can we deeply understand their spiritual connotation and aesthetic charm. In The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons (about 590 A.D.), China’s first work of aesthetics and also the first systematic work of literary criticism, Liu Xie repeatedly noted the significance of chanting in poetry creation. Liu Xie’s affirmation of chanting as an important facility for literary creation was later echoed by Yao Nai, one of the most famous essayists in the Ming dynasty. This traditional Chinese intoning approach has been widely used by ancient Chinese poets and literary men in their literary composition, learning activities and teaching jobs. Moreover, as a means of self-cultivation and cultural inheritance, chanting has been ranked among the most important media of Chinese thought and Chinese spirit.

Learn Chinese Chanting, launched by Jiangsu University located right in Zhenjiang, is an eight-day Chinese Chanting--themed program for university students from all over the world. With a variety of activities organized around Chinese Chanting, this project is intended to acquaint international students with the Chinese way of Chanting and the fascinating Chinese culture embedded in it, serving to promote their understanding of the Chinese history and culture, and offering them a chance to learn about China better and broaden their vision of the great oriental nation.

HIGHLIGHTS
1.A panoramic interactive cultural experience
English lectures and video shows about Chinese Chanting will be  offered, in which the students will be exposed to typical Chinese elements such as Chinese Chanting, traditional folk cultures, craftsmanship, cuisine, calligraphy, painting, musical instruments and so on. Great masters in all these fields will be invited to demonstrate their crafts and teach students in a whole variety of enchanting ways.

2.Visit and tour throughout the program
A host of Chinese Chanting-related visits and tourist activities will be arranged into a well-planned and rewarding schedule. All the tourist destinations are carefully chosen to feature the marvelous Chinese landscapes, including Qufu--the hometown of Confucius, Mount Tai--one of the “Five Great Mountains” in China, and Mount Maoshan, one of the most important sacred mountains for Taoists just in Zhenjiang, to name just a few.

3.Top priority for students’ security
Well-furnished on-campus housing will be offered, all the activities will be organized in a centralized manner and all the tours and visits will be superintended by teachers.
