The New-version HSK3.0 Training
To gain an accurate grasp of the reform directions of the new-version HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test), and improve the quality of international Chinese teaching and the standardization of examination administration, the International Chinese Teaching Division invited Ms. Zhao Xuan, Supervisor of the Research, Development and Item-writing Department of CTI, to deliver an online special lecture on April 1. Chaired by Director Tang Min of the International Chinese Teaching Division, the event attracted all teaching and administrative staff of the Language and Culture Center, who discussed key and challenging issues concerning teaching and testing under the new HSK framework.
Drawing on her extensive experience in HSK item development and teaching research, Ms. Zhao Xuan gave a detailed interpretation of the core revisions to the new-version HSK. She analyzed key updates to the test syllabus, compared differences between the old and new versions in item design, score weighting and difficulty progression, and elaborated on shifting assessment focuses across the three sections: listening, reading and writing. She also shared guidance on using official supporting resources for the new test and practical strategies to tackle difficult teaching points, equipping frontline teachers with theoretically grounded, actionable teaching advice.
The Q&A session was held in a lively atmosphere. Teachers raised questions rooted in classroom practice about adapting to new question formats, optimizing teaching approaches and boosting students’ test-taking competence. Administrative staff consulted Ms. Zhao Xuan on examination arrangement, procedural standards and candidate services. Supported by concrete cases, she offered targeted suggestions that addressed practical dilemmas in teaching and test administration.
This special training marks a key initiative by the International Chinese Teaching Division to respond proactively to the HSK reform and strengthen its faculty team. It has helped all staff fully understand the test rules and teaching requirements of the new HSK, laying a solid foundation for standardized teaching and higher-quality examination services going forward.
