In-depth study program on Recitation of Chinese Classics--Xijindu

On the afternoon of November 25th, Prof. Ren Xiaofei, with the exchange students and the International Chinese Teacher Scholarship students went to the third stop of the in-depth study course “Recitation of Chinese Classics” - Xijindu, known as the place of “one glance to see a thousand years”. The third stop of the “Chinese Classics Recitation” in-depth study program was Xijindu, which is known as “A Glance at a Thousand Years”, to recite Zhang Hu's “The Question of Jinlingdu”.

During the journey, Professor Ren Xiaofei shared with the international students the unique position of Chinese literary classics such as Tang and Song poems in the exchange and mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign civilizations.

Coming to the underground entrance of Xijindu, Prof. Ren Xiaofei introduced the history and structural characteristics of Xijindu to the international students. Walking into the scenic spot, a glance showed that the ground was full of autumn leaves spread on the pier. This pier is the ruins of a pier in the Qing Dynasty, and is also a historical witness to the culture of the Grand Canal in Zhenjiang. Walking further, “Happy City - Poetry of Zhenjiang” came into sight, and the international students stopped in front of the signboards, savoring the thoughts of “Jinling Jindu Xiaoshanlou, a pedestrian can be sad” and the poetic meaning of the city of Zhenjiang. and the poetry of Zhenjiang.

Continuing on their way, they strolled through the alleys full of Jiangnan style and saw the Shangqing Theater, where they exchanged their knowledge and understanding of Chinese drama. Prof. Ren Xiaofei also invited the students to learn to sing Peking Opera together, demonstrating the charm of traditional Chinese opera.

Climbing up the “53 steps” and passing through the winding ancient streets, we came to the Zhaoguan Stone Pagoda, a stone pagoda passed down from the Yuan Dynasty, amidst singing and laughter. About this tower, there is a very interesting legend: it is said that people who walk under the tower will have good luck. Everyone was very excited to walk past the stone tower, expecting good luck to happen.

The international students climbed up to admire the ancient Huizhou architectural complex. They came to “A Glance at the Millennium”, where they looked at the base of the ancient street road in the archaeological excavation pit and traced the long history.

Passing through the Pavilion of Waiting for Ferry, we came to the “Name Edge”. Prof. Ren Xiaofei was very excited to share with everyone the classic Chinese Montessori “Hundred Surnames” and suggested everyone to look for their own surnames, and the Korean students all started to look for their own surnames with great enthusiasm, which was an unexpected gain during the trip and made everyone very excited.

At the beginning of the night, the activity was coming to an end, and the international students, full of enthusiasm, recited “In the slanting moon of the river at night, two or three starry flames are in Guazhou”, which was a successful conclusion for this course activity.

The “Chinese Classics Chanting” study course transforms the teaching form of the course, puts fun into teaching and emotion into teaching, deepens the international students' understanding and knowledge of Chinese classics during the relaxing and enjoyable journey, and makes the international students closer to the Chinese language and culture.
