​International Students Win First Prize and Second Prize in the National Finals of “2024 (The 17th) China University Computer Design Competition

From August 8-12, 2024, the National Finals of the “2024 (17th) China University Student Computer Design Competition” (“Artificial Intelligence Application/International Students' Chinese Studies” track) was held at Southeast University. “ track) was held at Southeast University. The international students' work “Knowing with Western Eyes” selected by the College of Arts and Letters (Language and Culture Center) won the national first prize and the national award for distinctive works, and “China's Newton - Shen Kuo” won the national second prize.

 

 

 


 Led by their instructors, the two international student teams of our university, with extraordinary perseverance and enthusiasm, went through more than 8 months of conceptualization, research and development, and production, and stood out from the school competition, the provincial preliminary competition, and the provincial final competition, and entered the national competition. In the end, the two teams performed calmly and confidently in the defense of the National Competition, answered the questions of the judges and the audience with sound arguments, and presented two novel and wonderful works of “Sinology” for international students.

 

  The microcourse work “Knowing Friends through Western Eyes” explained the spiritual pursuit of the Chinese people who cherish friendship from the perspective of international students. International students not only explained the cultural allusion of “High Mountains and Flowing Water” in simple language, but also showed the vivid cases of contemporary China's search for soulmates around the world, which inspired international students to spread the culture of soulmates and promote the exchanges and mutual understanding of civilizations. The work was cleverly conceived, fluent in expression, and highly integrated with the real experiences of international students and original animation, and won the unanimous praise of the judges of the competition, and not only won the first prize of the national competition, but also was awarded the prize of the national featured work, which was the first time for the work of international students to win such an award in the competition. 

The digital media work “China's Newton - Shen Kuo” aims to help more international students to understand China's scientific and technological achievements, promote the international dissemination of China's science and technology culture as well as the exchanges and mutual appreciation of scientific and technological civilization of various countries, in the form of storytelling by international students, through the integration of the field visit to Zhenjiang Monkey Garden, hand-drawn animation, MG animation, creative work, etc.. Through the integration of hand-drawn animation, MG animation, creative work and other expressive methods, the program introduced the ancient Chinese science and technology work “Mengxi Bianan” and the famous scientist Shen Kuo, who is regarded as the “coordinate in the history of Chinese science and technology”, from the four aspects of “Heaven, Earth, Chemistry, and Art”. -Shen Kuo. The work was well-made and interesting, which impressed the judges and won the second prize.

 

China University Student Computer Design Competition is one of the competitions for undergraduates and is on the list of the Ministry of Education's College Student Competition Ranking. Since its inception in 2008, the competition has been independently or jointly organized by the Education Ministry and the Computer-Related Instruction Committee of Colleges and Universities. The College of Liberal Arts (Language and Culture Center) attaches great importance to the organization and preparation of the competition. Since January 2024, the College (Center) has fully supported the instructors to lead the international students to polish their works for 8 months, to deepen the international students' understanding and recognition of Chinese culture and encourage them to demonstrate our university's culture in novel and diversified ways by means of the competition. Through the “competition for learning”, the international students were encouraged to deepen their understanding and recognition of Chinese culture, and to use novel and diversified ways to show the latest style of international Chinese education in our university.
