Date:2024-07-18 View:

On July 18, 2024, the campers of the “China Roots Journey” Longyinqinyun Camp in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, went to the famous White Snake Legend to talk about the Legend of the White Snake and Jinshan Temple with Ms. Yuan Ting.

In the interactive session before the class, Ms. Yuan first quizzed everyone on how much they knew about the four great masterpieces and four legends of China. Campers Wang Zihong answered that one of the four great masterpieces was Journey to the West, and Ao Bang from France also mentioned the legend of Chang'e's journey to the moon.

Mr. Yuan taught the campers about the origin and evolution of the legend of the White Snake and the changes in the image of the main character, combining it with a contemporary version of The Origin of the White Snake.

Mr. Yuan then focused on the famous local landscapes in Zhenjiang that are related to the Legend of the White Snake, and used film and television to tell two classic episodes of the Legend, namely the administering of medicine by the Baohe Tang and the Dragon Boat Festival. Campers were full of curiosity about the Legend of the White Snake and enthusiastically asked questions to the teacher, who enthusiastically answered them, and students also actively exchanged and shared the results of today's learning.

At the end of the activity, the campers completed the group work together. Zhou Du, Dean of the College of Letters of Jiangsu University, commented on the activity and hoped that the overseas Chinese youths would give full play to what they had learned today, tell good Chinese stories and spread Chinese culture after going back to China.
