On the morning of July 19th, the young campers of the 2024 “China Roots Journey” summer camp in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province, led by Ms. Li Hongyan from the Language and Culture Center of Jiangsu University, learned “Interesting Chinese Characters” and “The Rainbow Bridge”. “The program was led by Ms. Li Hongyan from the Language and Culture Center of Jiangsu University. In Ms. Li's lively and interesting class, the campers read and wrote Chinese characters, shared the origins and meanings of their Chinese names, and explored their cultural roots by drawing rainbow bridges, connecting their love of China and Chinese language.
The program was divided into two sessions. In the first session, Ms. Li taught 36 pictograms to convey the message that Chinese characters are not difficult and encouraged the campers to work hard to learn Chinese characters. Under the guidance of the teacher, the campers studied and wrote the characters carefully.
In the second session, Ms. Li asked the campers to take turns sharing the origin and meaning of their Chinese names, and Mr. Zhou Du, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Jiangsu University, also told the campers the story of his name. Through the interpretation of names, the campers felt the profoundness of Chinese culture.
At the end of the course, Mr. Li led the group to draw a rainbow bridge, connecting the love of China and Chinese language. The program ended successfully with the laughter of the students.
