The first “Joyful Language and Culture Exchange Corner”

 was successfully held

On the morning of April 14th, 2024, the first “Joyful Language and Culture Exchange Corner” was successfully held in the lobby of Jingjiang Building. This activity was hosted by the Youth League Committee of Jiangsu University and the College of Overseas Education, while the College of Liberal Arts (Language and Culture Center), as a co-organizer, actively organized and led students to participate in this activity.  

The event aimed to build a platform for language and cultural exchange, to improve the language ability of Chinese and foreign students, to practice their speaking skills, and to enhance their self-confidence and interest in language learning. The activity is rich in content, mainly including two sessions of spontaneous talk and storytelling, providing a stage for participants to show themselves and exchange ideas.

Under the careful organization and active mobilization of the Faculty of Arts (Language and Culture Center), a total of five students enthusiastically participated in this activity, including three Chinese students and two international students. They are Fan Ziyi, Liang Yutong, Zhuang Chuyu, and Jin Xinyan (SHOKARIM SHOAFZALOV) from Uzbekistan and Ying'er (NINEL SOLOVEVA) from Russia. All five students showed great enthusiasm and motivation in the program.

  In the first session of the discussion, the students had a lively discussion around the theme of the activity, and Xinyan Jin was elected as the representative of the group to speak by virtue of her fluent Chinese and excellent expression ability. As an International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship student, Xinyan Jin was able to express the group's views confidently and won the praise of the teachers and students in the audience, even though he has been studying Chinese at Jiangsu University for only seven months.

 In the second part of the presentation, five students from the College of Arts and Letters (Language and Culture Center) became the focus of the audience. They all told stories about their hometowns in their non-native languages with sincere emotions and fluent languages, which not only showed their excellent language skills, but also conveyed their deep attachment to their hometowns. It is worth mentioning that only 10 Chinese and foreign students participated in this event, and students from the Faculty of Arts (Language and Culture Center) took up half of them, which undoubtedly won the honor for the Faculty and set an example for the whole university.

 This event not only provided a platform for students to show themselves and exchange ideas, but also invariably stimulated their enthusiasm and interest in language learning. By participating in such activities, students can not only improve their language skills, but also enhance their self-confidence and cross-cultural communication skills.
